On April 25, 2024, Taiko announced the final testnet before the mainnet launch: Hekla, which supports EIP-4844 functionality. According to previous reports, Taiko is expected to complete its code audit and launch the mainnet in Q2 2024. New Features of Hekla:

• No longer requires an archive L1 node;
• EIP-4844DA blocks enabled;
• Adjustment of gas issuance and limits for L2 blocks;
• Fine-tuning of the EIP-1559 configuration;
• Improvements to the prover infrastructure for the guardian;
• Support for two-step claiming of bridged tokens from L2 to L1.

In addition, Hekla adopts the same Battle-tested Competitive Rollup (BCR) mechanism as Katla. Taiko will launch the mainnet using the BCR architecture, and Katla will be deprecated on May 10.

To run a Hekla node, you will need Hekla test tokens. These tokens are typically bridged from the Holesky testnet. If you don’t have Holesky bridge access, you can purchase them directly on this page.
