Scroll is a zkRollup built on Ethereum's zkEVM. Simply put, it's a Layer 2 network similar to Arbitrum, offering native compatibility with existing Ethereum applications and tools.

Evolution of Scroll Testnets

Previously, Scroll launched two testnets: the Goerli Testnet and the Scroll Alpha Testnet. However, with the introduction of Ethereum's Sepolia testnet, these two testnets were gradually phased out. Following this, Scroll introduced its flagship testnet: the Scroll Sepolia Testnet.

On this new testnet, Scroll has implemented several updates, such as improved EVM compatibility, more efficient on-chain verification through proof compression and aggregation, and a 50% increase in gas efficiency.

Why Use the Scroll Sepolia Testnet?

It's simple: the Scroll Sepolia Testnet is Scroll’s Beta testnet on Sepolia. It will run alongside the Scroll mainnet indefinitely and serve as the primary testing platform for users and developers, as well as the test environment for all future upgrades. The experience will closely mirror that of the Scroll mainnet, and any future network upgrades will be deployed on Scroll Sepolia before being implemented on the mainnet.
